This tapestry depicts a horse at a watering hole, set against a fantasy landscape, with detail including wildlife and fauna. The originals were inspired by paintings by Albert Eckhout (1610 - 1665), a Dutch painter who detailed the plants, animals and natives of the Dutch colonies on an expedition to South America between 1637 and 1644 at the bequest of Prince Johan Maurits, the then Governor of Brazil.
